Shaquille O'Neal is looking to continue a sideline career in law enforcement now that he's in Ohio playing for the Cavaliers. Spokesman John O'Brien of the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County sheriff's office says the Cavs center has applied to become a special deputy. He would have the right to carry a gun and make arrests but not be a paid, formal employee.

Cavs trim roster by 3 (AP)

The Cleveland Cavaliers have trimmed their roster to 15, waiving guards Andre Barrett and Russell Robinson, and center Darryl Watkins. The moves were announced Thursday. Barrett played in four preseason games and averaged 5.8 points and 4.3 assists in 17.5 minutes. He played in the Spanish League last season for FC Barcelona.

The Boston Celtics rested two-thirds of their Big Three. Everybody else was up to the task. Eddie House scored 21 points as the Celtics rolled to a 96-82 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in a preseason game Wednesday night. "We got a win. We closed the preseason out right," said House, who hit 8 of 14 shots from the field including three 3-pointers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers made their first roster cuts of the preseason, waiving forward Rob Kurz and center Luke Nevill. Kurz, who played in 40 games last season for Golden State, averaged 3.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in five exhibition games. Nevill averaged 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds in 8.8 minutes over four games.

Shaquille O'Neal wasn't the only superstar added to Cleveland's roster this offseason. Michael Symon, who appears on TV's "Iron Chef," is helping the Cavaliers upgrade their culinary playbook. The award-winning chef and Cleveland native is teaming up with the Cavs to bring some of his signature cuisine to Quicken Loans Arena.

LeBron James isn't quite over the flu. He's not that far off. James scored 22 points in 19 minutes in his return to the Cleveland lineup after staying home sick for the last game, but the San Antonio Spurs beat the Cavaliers 105-98 on Friday night. Though not completely healthy, James said he still felt pretty good after going 7 of 14 from the field and grabbing six rebounds.

LeBron James and teammates Darnell Jackson and Coby Karl have tested positive for Influenza A, and are being treated as if they have the H1N1 virus. H1N1, also known as swine flu, is a strain of Influenza A, and though the Cavaliers have not gotten back H1N1 test results on the three, the team said it is being proactive in treating players and the traveling party to Texas.
